Abstract

The research aims to test the psychometric properties of the Eysenck Addiction Scale in Misurata city, and to derive local standards for the scale. It also aims to study the personality traits of drug addicts and compare them with the traits of non-addicts, to determine the personality traits that contribute most to predicting the predisposition to addiction. The research sample included (92) participants.Among them were (42) drug addicts, whose ages ranged between (16) and (40) years, with an average of (26.36), and (50) non-addicts, whose ages ranged between (15) and (44) years, with an average of (25.48).They all responded to the Eysenck Addiction Inventory and the Revised Eysenck Personality Inventory. The results showed good indicators of the validity and reliability of the scale through testing the construct validity of the scale, and testing the stability and internal consistency of the scale. The research also provided performance rates (i.e. behavior).A local research sample on the Eysenck Addiction Scale. The research showed that addicts are characterized by high levels of neuroticism and psychoticism, and low levels of extroversion and social desirability, compared to normal individuals, i.e., non-addicts. Therefore, the degree of predisposition to addiction can be predicted from their scores on these dimensions.
