The art of pottery making is one of the oldest crafts known to humankind across the globe, from ancient times to the present day. Its versatility, encompassing both functional and aesthetic uses, and its connection to daily life, explain its enduring presence and importance despite the tremendous technological advancements in various crafts. The difficulty in determining an approximate date for the emergence of baked clay pots is mostly due to conflicting opinions between the writings of historians and the results of archaeological discoveries, which gives the subject special importance. The process of making a pottery vessel has evolved over thousands of years from simply mixing clay with water and drying it after shaping it as required to a complex process demanding effort, patience, and meticulousness. This process begins with selecting the appropriate type of clay and the specific materials added to each type of vessel, depending on its intended use, and extends to the shaping method and the firing technique. Although the remains of pottery vessels and bowls are susceptible to deterioration over time due to internal and external factors, their diverse shapes, decorations, and designs make them among the most abundant archaeological finds at sites. Consequently, they constitute material documents reflecting the economic, social, religious, and sometimes even political conditions of the site to which they belong, in addition to their significant importance in historical and archaeological studies. The problem of the study revolves around the origin of baked clay pots, their technical development, and their significance. The study adopted the historical, descriptive, analytical, and comparative method and concluded with several results, including that the regions of East Asia are among the oldest places where baked clay pots appeared, and this was prior to the knowledge of agricultural settlement, and that their types varied according to the environment, raw materials, and type of use, and that it has particular importance as a tool for relative dating
