Influence of Pre-Writing Strategies on Writing Performance and Preferences of Libyan EFL Students

This study investigated the influence of pre-writing strategies on the writing performance of university students majoring in English as a Foreign Language(EFL). It also explored students' preferences for different prewriting strategies during classroom writing tasks. Thirty EFL students from the college of Arts Misurata University participated in the study. The research employed an experimental design, using writing tasks with brainstorming strategies, particularly mind mapping and outlines. writing samples were analyzed in terms of vocabulary, structure, content, and cohesion. The results revealed that mind-mapping techniques significantly enhanced the quality of EFL students' writing, with the mind mapping proving especially effective for idea for idea generation and organization. The study highlights the importance of integrating pre-writing strategies into EFL writing instruction and provides valuable insights for teachers to improve students' writing skills
