Abstract

This chapter provides the students with the basic concepts of translation. It demonstrates the relation between translation and the grammar of the languages concerned with the process of translation; viz. English and Arabic. This chapter indicates the main grammatical differences between Arabic and English. It talks about the usage of indefinite articles, gender, the 2nd person pronoun, sentence types, and passive voice in both languages: Arabic and English. It shows some linguistic problems such as the Arabic connector "wa", punctuation, paragraph organization, vocabulary, homonyms, style and writing skills. It also presents the unit of translation and the classification of units of translation.
