Abstract:
This study sought to identify the role of social media networks in shaping adolescent girls’ awareness of the phenomenon of underage marriage, in light of their increasing reliance on them as a source of information. The study relied, in its methodological framework, on the survey approach, with its descriptive and analytical aspects, using the questionnaire form as the main tool for collecting data from a deliberate sample consisting of (150) female students from the secondary stage at Al-Qarabulli Secondary School - Libya, for the academic year 2023-2024 AD. The study concluded with a number of results, the most prominent of which are: the majority of female students follow content related to underage marriage on social media networks, to varying degrees. They also considered these networks a primary source for obtaining information about social issues, and their responses indicated that they had viewed posts and videos specifically addressing the topic of underage marriage. The results also showed that the vast majority of female students are exposed to this type of content, whether constantly or occasionally, with differences in the degree of this exposure between female students of different grades. Most female students also confirmed that awareness campaigns spread on social media networks play an influential role in changing the attitudes of teenage girls towards the phenomenon of underage marriage.
