The Yemeni public's use of the Internet and its relationship to their level of awareness of the dangers of cybercrime - a survey study

The study aimed to identify the Yemeni public's level of awareness of the dangers of cybercrime, through a survey method applied to a random sample of 400 internet users.
The study found an increase in the respondents' use of the Internet, and (Internet sites and social networking sites) were the most important sources on which the respondents relied in their knowledge of cybercrime. It also concluded that nearly half of the study sample had been exposed to at least one type of cybercrime. It indicated that the respondents had good knowledge of the methods of committing cybercrime, and in contrast, the study found a weakness in the respondents' awareness of the methods of preventing cybercrime.
The study also found that there was no statistically significant correlation between the rate of the Yemeni public's use of the Internet and the degree of their awareness of the concept and methods of crime, while it found a statistically significant correlation between the rate of the Yemeni public's use of the Internet and the degree of awareness of ways to prevent cybercrime.
