Psychological stress among medical students with irritable bowel syndrome at the University of Benghazi in light of some variables

The study aimed to identify the level of psychological stress among students
of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Benghazi who suffer from
irritable bowel syndrome, and are there statistically significant differences in
the level of psychological stress due to the following variables: (age - academic
level - marital status - type of disease - duration of injury, date family disease),
the study was conducted on an available sample of (109) male and female
students, and the descriptive approach was used to achieve the objectives of
the study, and data was collected using the measure of psychological stress
sources (prepared by the researcher), as the results showed:
1. There are statistically significant high levels of the following sources of
psychological stress (health, personal, academic, and environmental) among
students of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Benghazi who suffer
from irritable bowel syndrome, while the levels were low and less than the
average in the source of social stress.
2. There are no statistically significant differences in the level of psychological
stress among medical students at the University of Benghazi who suffer from
irritable bowel syndrome due to the variables of the study (age, academic level,
marital status, type of disease, duration of injury, history of family disease).
The researcher recommended the opening of offices for psychological
rehabilitation and counseling in universities, to provide counseling programs
to mitigate the impact of what their students face from sources of psychological
stress to work on enhancing their mental health, with organizing training
courses on strategies to confront sources of psychological stress and how to
deal with them, and to educate students with irritable bowel syndrome to stay
away About things that increase their symptoms, such as stress, anxiety,
staying up late, and avoiding foods that irritate Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
