Abstract

The research aims to identify the types of skills included in the exercises book in the fourth grade science course of basic education, in addition to knowing the role of the science laboratory in acquiring basic science operations skills included in the exercises book in the science course for fourth-grade students, as well as to know if there is There are differences between the sample members according to their gender, and their level of achievement, and the researcher used the descriptive and analytical method, in order to fit this approach to achieve the objectives of the research, and the research included two tools: (content analysis and observation card), and the research sample was chosen randomly from schools with a laboratory Science during the academic year 2018-2019 AD, and the number of the research sample was (137) male and female students of the fourth grade basic, of whom (73) male and (64) female students, and the results of the research showed that the book included exercises in the science course for the fourth grade of the stage of basic skills education The following: (observation, classification, prediction, measurement, use of numbers, use of temporal and spatial relationships, communication), and the most common skills were (observation) with a percentage (17.80%), and the least were skills. (Classification) by (8.47%), and the results showed that the role of the science laboratory in acquiring basic science processes skills included in the science course for fourth-grade students was to a large extent, and the highest skills were acquisition of (communication) skill by (96%), and the least was the acquisition of inference skill. By (72.67%), the results also showed that there are statistically significant differences (α = 0.05) between the arithmetic averages of the role of the science laboratory in acquiring basic science operations skills due to the variable (gender), in favor of males compared to females. Statistically significant differences (α = 0.05) between the arithmetic means of the role of the science laboratory in acquiring basic science operations skills due to a variable (level of achievement) in favor of high achievement (the higher the achievement, the greater the skill). The researcher also recommends educating science teachers about basic science operations skills and emphasizing the importance of acquiring them in basic education stages, as it is considered a ladder to reach the skills of integrated science operations.
