Textual Thresholds and Their Significance in the Novel "Do Not Open the Door": A Semiotic Linguistic Study

Abstract

This study aims to highlight the significance and semiotic
dimensions of thresholds/parallel texts in the novel "Do Not Open the Door"
by Libyan author Muath Al-Hamri, and to extract the connections between
them and the other components of the text. This is achieved through a textual
analysis that treats them not merely as a pure literary phenomenon, but as a text and an aesthetic phenomenon that does not differ from the aesthetics of
the original texts they present and pave the way for. In modern and
contemporary studies, thresholds/parallel texts represent a significant
semantic anchor in the creative and critical process, and an important
strategic conduit for clarifying the content of the text to the recipient and
highlighting its deep meanings. Thresholds have captured the attention of
researchers and scholars specializing in the fields of criticism, semiotics, and
semantics due to their role in elucidating meaning, illuminating the darkness
of the text, and unlocking its complexities.
The study analyzed the threshold of the title, the cover threshold from three
angles (image - colors - way of writing the title on the cover), the
introduction threshold, and the semiotics of character names.
