Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence
Introduction
With the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and the emergence of tools that assist in writing, editing, and data analysis, MMSJ is committed to outlining ethical and scientific standards for the use of such tools to ensure academic integrity and the quality of published scientific content.
This policy has been developed based on internationally recognized best practices adopted by leading academic publishers such as Elsevier, Springer Nature, and Wiley, and in accordance with the requirements of global indexing databases like Scopus and Web of Science.
General Principles
- AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors of any scientific work.
- Authors must disclose the use of any AI tools involved in writing or editing the manuscript, in a separate section titled: 'Disclosure of AI Tool Use', placed before the reference list.
- Authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy and reliability of any content generated with the assistance of AI tools.
Permissible Use of AI Tools
AI is allowed as guidance in the following tasks:
- Proofreading and grammar correction.
- Rewording or linguistic reorganization.
- Assistance in generating initial ideas.
- Support in writing the literature review or introduction.
- Machine translation with human review.
- Programming or coding assistance.
Prohibited Use of AI Tools
AI must not be used in the following cases:
- Generating research results or data.
- Analyzing results, diagnosing, or clinical data in medical and engineering research.
- Analyzing statistical or scientific data using AI tools without expert supervision.
- Writing discussions or conclusions entirely using AI tools.
- Relying on AI to generate scientific text without human review.
Suggested Disclosure Statement
AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) were used to assist with proofreading and initial rewording of some sections of this research. All text was reviewed for accuracy and authenticity by the authors themselves.
Procedures
- The editorial board reserves the right to reject or reevaluate any manuscript found to have undisclosed AI tool usage.
- Authors may be asked to provide further clarification on how AI tools were used.
- Reviewers and editors are prohibited from using AI tools during the peer review process to preserve objectivity and integrity.
