Use of Generative AI Policy
This policy aims to define the general framework for the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools, ensuring their responsible and ethical application in scientific research. It outlines the rules and standards governing the use of such tools in scholarly work.
Definition:
Generative Artificial Intelligence refers to AI technologies capable of producing content (such as text, images, figures, or other outputs) in response to user inputs. Examples include tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot, among others.
Permitted Uses of AI:
Authors may use AI tools to assist in certain non-substantive aspects of manuscript preparation:
- Language Improvement:
AI may be used for grammar correction, language enhancement, sentence structuring, and stylistic editing. Authors remain fully responsible for reviewing and verifying all changes.
- Data Analysis and Visualization:
AI tools may be used to support data analysis conducted through conventional research methods. The methodology must include a detailed description of the tools used, parameters, and justification. AI-generated figures and visualizations are acceptable provided that data sources are clearly documented and outputs are verified for accuracy.
- Idea Generation:
AI tools may support brainstorming and exploration of research frameworks. However, they must not be used to formulate hypotheses or produce original scientific conclusions.
- Illustrative Examples:
AI-generated examples may be included for explanatory purposes, provided they are clearly identified and properly documented within the manuscript.
Prohibited Uses of AI:
- Plagiarism:
Using AI to write a manuscript or parts of it and presenting it as original work without disclosure constitutes a violation of academic integrity and publication ethics.
- Fabrication of Data or Results:
Generating fake data, statistical analyses, or results AI to support research hypotheses is considered serious scientific misconduct. All data must be derived from verifiable, original research.
- Creation or Manipulation of Images and Figures:
The creation or alteration of images, figures, or visual content using AI is prohibited due to concerns regarding authenticity and ethical compliance.
Non-Disclosure of AI Use:
Failure to disclose the use of AI tools in the preparation of research work constitutes a breach of academic integrity standards. Authors must clearly state how such tools were used within the methodology or preparation stages. undermines transparency and may negatively impact the credibility and acceptance of the research.
Disclosure Requirements:
Authors must provide a clear and explicit disclosure statement if Generative AI tools are used. This statement should include:
- The name of the tool(s) used.
- A precise description of the tasks performed AI (e.g., language editing, proofreading, scientific translation assistance, idea organization).
This ensures transparency and compliance with academic standards.
Suggested AI Disclosure Statement:
Generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, were used in limited stages of preparing this research, specifically for language refinement, proofreading, and improving clarity of presentation. These tools were not used to generate or analyze data, nor to formulate core scientific results or conclusions.
All AI-assisted content was carefully reviewed by the author(s) to ensure scientific accuracy and originality. The author(s) bear full responsibility for the final content of the manuscript.
Consequences of Misuse:
In accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), any violation of this policy may result in actions such as rejection of the submitted manuscript, retraction of published articles if misconduct is discovered post-publication, and notification of relevant academic institutions, funding bodies, or other concerned parties where appropriate.
