One hundred and twenty sheep ( 60 Libyan sheep and 60 Spanish sheep ) were post – mortem examined for the occurrence of hydatid cysts and Monezia expansa during the period from Jan . to Dec. 2017 . The results revealed that the incidence rate of infection among Libyan sheep was 26 ( 43.3%), and in Spanish sheep was 32 ( 53.3%). According to the age , the incidence rate among age group < 2 years old was 14 ( 23.3% ) and age group > 2 years old 12 ( 20% ) was in Libyan sheep while in Spanish sheep was 11 ( 18.3% ) among age groups < 2 years old and 21 ( 35% ) among age age group > 2 years old. According to seasons , the highest incidence rate was in summer 8 ( 13.3% ) in Libyan sheep and 11 ( 18.3% ) in Spanish sheep.
Occurrence of hydatid cysts in different organs of Libyan and Spanish sheep at Misurata Slaughter House, the most affected organs in Libyan sheep were the liver (8.3%) , lungs (1.7%) and abdominal cavity was 3.4%. In Spanish sheep were the liver and lungs (10.0%) , (3.4%) respectively. The overall rates of the male and female in Libyan and Spanish sheep between 18.3% – 25.0% and 21.6%-31.6% respectively.
